‘My approach to art and design is rooted in research, conceptual exploration and experimentation.’

Iwona Abrams often experiments with notions of duration and documentation through the chemical and physical transformation processes, in an attempt to mark, merge, and perhaps suspend time. She is fascinated with matter and experiments with different materials, in particular ice. In addition to developing a unique printing method employing transient qualities of ice, Abrams tests models of participatory processes to engage audiences with her work capturing the ambient and ephemeral data affording a greater understanding of natural environment and physical data. She often works outside the confines of her print studio and has set up a ‘laboratory’ in locations around the world: Atacama Desert, Chile, Sweden, Falkland Islands, Poland and Spain.

Iwona Abrams is a senior lecturer at the University of Westminster and has previously taught at the Royal College of Art and London College of Communications. She is a graduate of the Royal College of Art, Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design and Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. Abrams frequently contributes to international publications, conferences and exhibits her work widely at established venues such as Künstlerhaus Gallery, Vienna and Zachęta National Gallery, Warsaw.
